Text Box: The Sweden Farmers Museum was established
in 2005 to preserve the Town’s agricultural history; to educate adults and children through a variety of interactive activities; and to celebrate, at the
community level, the successes and importance of local farming. The museum is located in a circa 1820’s farmhouse on the crest of the Niagara
Escarpment at the entrance to Lakeview Cemetery. The Town is currently in the process of restoring the farmhouse to its original condition. Many
agricultural artifacts have already been donated to the museum and will soon be on display.

COMMUNITY AWARDS BANQUET RECOGNIZES VOLUNTEERS

The Sweden/Clarkson Recreation Department honored several local volunteers at its annual Community Service Banquet held April 23 at the Sweden Senior Center.

Jack Milner received the Person of the Year Award for his work with high school athletics and for his leadership as President of the Sweden Community Foundation. Also receiving awards were: Debbie Preston, an elementary school teacher who volunteers for several organizations; Joan McGuinn, a volunteer senior exercise instructor; Grace Mendenhall, a Brockport High School student volunteer; and Bob and Debbie Ryan, owners of Ryan’s Big M, who support a variety of community activities.

Frank Balling, a retired Brockport Central School District administrator, was the keynote speaker. Mr. Balling marveled at the growth in local recreational opportunities over the past several years. He noted that the Sweden/Clarkson Recreation Department offers programs for every age group from infant to senior citizen. He lauded the town boards of Sweden and Clarkson for their commitment to recreation and emphasized part of the recreation department’s mission statement – “recreational opportunities serve to increase the quality of life of the individual and in turn their community.”

Sweden Councilperson Tom Ferris emceed the event and thanked the volunteers for helping to make the Sweden/Clarkson community the type of place that people want to call home.
