Children

(Preschool - 5th grade)

“Catch the Reading Bug” this summer at the Seymour Library! The Summer Reading Game kicks off June 28th with an outdoor live bugs program. Come check out the creepy-crawlies and learn more about centipedes, millipedes, scorpions, snails and spiders!

The number of books read during the summer is consistently related to academic gains. We’ll offer lots of prizes and fun motivation to keep kids reading all summer long.

We'll also have lots of fun programs about bugs! Come see the Teens' Reader Theater starring Anansi the Spider. Or maybe you'd like to learn the Bug Dance. We'll also have Bug Crafts with Deb Cody, magic and ventriloquism with Bruce Weaver and Friends, and a "Wild Songs and Nature" outdoor concert.

Summer storytimes will be held on Wednesdays from 11:00- 11:30 am for ages 3-5 only during the six weeks of the Summer Reading Game. Regular storytimes will resume in September. Registration is required.

Adults

Join the Adult Summer Reading Game and get a chance to win a $20 gift certificate to a local business, 10 free library holds, or $5 off your library fines! 6 weeks, 12 prizes and unlimited entries!

Learn about the history of roller coasters in June and how to do genealogical research in July. Find out how to communicate through flowers in our Victorian Language of Flowers program in August.

We will also be continuing our Scrabble and Knitting Clubs, and summer book discussions which will feature T.C. Boyle's novel World's End in June, Stephen Flynn's The Edge of Disaster in July, and William Faulkner's Light in August in August.

Teens

(Grades 6-12)

Teen volunteers wanted! Lend a hand with the children's Summer Reading Game, help keep the library in order during the busy summer months, or be a book buddy to a younger child. Interested?  Our volunteer training session is on Thursday, June 19 at 7:00 pm. Can't come to the session? You can still volunteer! Call for more information.

Book Bugs” - Book Buddies 2008

Preschool to High School!

Big kids, little kids…kids of all ages and sizes can go buggy for books - together!

Young children, from preschool to fifth grade, will be matched with a teen partner to share reading time in the library once a week. Teens read to younger kids, beginning readers can read to their teen, older children can share book favorites with their buddy, and everyone has fun! Make sure your kids are buzzing with the joy of reading this summer.
